Frequently Asked Questions
general
Ela is a Greek word that means “come.” The word lane means “path.” We walk the path of sustainability, luxury, style and comfort. It is our mission to create the finest linen without compromising the health of our planet.
All of our products are made ethically in Portugal. They are GOTS (Global Organic Textile
Standard)-certified and OEKO TEX Standard. This means that our sheets are organic, our company is socially and environmentally responsible, and our products are free of harmful substances. These certifications assure our consumers that our products meet the highest social and environmental standards throughout every step of production.
Organic cotton is naturally soft and good for your health. The use of organic cotton supports sustainable textile practices while protecting farmers and their families from exploitation. The use of organic cotton also reduces exposure to harmful toxins, as organic cotton contains no toxic pesticides or chemicals.
As a result, we’ve created a quality product that lasts a long, long time. With more than 10 million tons of textiles finding their way to landfills each year, we’ve extended the life of our linens to reduce environmental waste. Read more about our mission here.
Each organic bed linen is wrapped in Ela Lane-branded tissue paper and closed with a “thank you” sticker. All ink on the tissue paper is soy-based. It’s completely acid-free and FSC-certified, providing you with a premium packaging solution that doesn’t harm the environment. We then carefully place the wrapped product into an Ela Lane mailer box made from recycled Kraft paper. All of our packaging is made in the U.S.A.
our products
The term thread count refers to the number of horizontal and vertical threads woven in a square inch of fabric. Some linen manufacturers claim high-thread count sheets are best, but thread count is not as important as fabric quality. Some manufacturers use thin plies of low-quality cotton bound together to claim a higher thread count, leading to breaks and pulls in the sheets. These low-quality, high-thread count sheets can feel rough.
Ela Lane uses premium-quality fabric, so a 300-thread count Ela Lane sheet may feel softer and last longer than another product listed at 1,000-thread count or higher.
We use the finest-quality organic cotton to create single-ply, 300-thread count percale sheets.
Cotton percale sheets utilize a one-under, one-over weave resulting in a crisp finish that softens with every use.
Sateen sheets are woven using a higher ratio of warp to weft, in a three- to four-over, one-under pattern.
We do not currently offer fabric swatches; however, we hope to in the near future.
Our fitted sheets are 17 inches deep. They’re designed to fit the deepest mattresses on the marketplace, even after washing.
One hundred percent organic cotton is more prone to wrinkling than conventional “wrinkle-resistant” bedsheets. However, wrinkle-resistant sheets are often soaked in harsh chemicals or waxes. All Ela Lane products are free of chemicals and made from 100 percent organic cotton. Please see our care guide for help with keeping your sheets looking and feeling their best.
We recommend washing your Ela Lane sheets before using them. This will rid your new sheets of any dust and will also ensure a better fit. We expect your Ela Lane sheets to shrink slightly after the first wash.
